Reflections for Sunday

John 1: 1 – 18 intercom:

The term ‘word’ in English is a translation of the Greek word ‘logos’. In using this term John initiates a dialogue between Greek culture and Hebrew culture. In the Greek world, logos could mean soul of the world. In the Jewish scriptures logos stands for the wisdom and word of God. In the Book of Isaiah we read of how God speaks and the word of God does not return ‘without carrying out my will and succeeding in what it was sent to do’ (Isa 55:11). Now in the fullness of time, the Word of God has become flesh and lived among us (John 1:14). From him we receive grace and we enter into union with the God who calls us by name.
